Chaatl Village Site

Photo 10 - Chaatl This remarkable totem pole is most of what remains of Chaatl Village on Chaatl Island — located towards the west end of Buck Channel, between Graham and Moresby Islands.

The village is estimated to have supported over 500 Haida before being ravished by fire and possibly disease. Some of the descendants of the village are now located in Skidegate Village. More information can be found in Queen Charlotte Islands: Places and Names.

Haida sites like this were an inspiration to artists such as Emily Carr.
