Blu Smith - Artist Statement

Although successful as a professional commercial artist, I found the inherent desire to create overwhelming, and have now decided to paint more for personal satisfaction and expression. For a year now, I have been a full-time working artist, creating a body of work that displays both my spontaneous and methodical sides, a portion of which is displayed herein.

Abstraction is the process that allows me to release any constraints on my creativity. Abstraction has allowed me to break down spiritual and mental barriers, opening doors into my New World of possibilities. Painting has freed my mind and soul, letting me express emotions and thoughts through unrestrained combinations of colour, shape, line, and texture.

When I begin a painting, there is no clearly defined end point in sight. The vision is based more in the process rather than the completion, with only the mixed purpose simply and clearly evident: the joy I find in painting and the enjoyment I provide the viewer.
